Airfoil families
The Clark Y is a moderately cambered section with a flat lower surface over the rear half. It was drawn so a builder could set that flat on a board. It is not a laminar-flow section.

NACA 23012 asks for a design lift coefficient of 0.3 with the camber crest at 15% chord and 12% thickness. The forward camber is why the pitching moment stays milder than a 4-digit section asked for the same lift.

NACA 4415 is 4% camber at 40% chord and 15% thick. It carries more design lift than a 2412 and more spar depth than a 4412. Both of those choices have a drag and a moment attached.

Both sections are uncambered. NACA 0018 is thicker, so the leading-edge radius, the spar and usually the stall margin grow, and low-lift drag and critical Mach usually pay for it.

Eppler sections were designed by prescribing the velocity distribution, with the low-Reynolds-number boundary layer in mind. A model-sailplane polar is not a full-scale polar.

Selig sections for models and small aircraft were developed by designing a shape, testing it at low Reynolds number, and publishing the result. The wind-tunnel Reynolds number is part of the design.
