Specialized applications
A solar UAV spends the day’s collected energy on drag. The section has to be efficient at low speed and low Reynolds number, and the upper surface is also a solar array that must stay smooth.

A human can produce a few hundred watts for a long effort. The airplane only closes if airplane L/D is very high, which means a large aspect ratio and a section whose profile drag is small at low speed.

Root, mid-span and tip are different airfoils at different Reynolds numbers. The rotor works only if each station is analysed at its own speed, chord and thickness.
